Dani Alves Begged To Return To Barcelona In 2019 In Leaked Chat With Former President Josep Bartomeu

Another day, another controversy in Barcelona.

The former president of the club, Josep Maria Bartomeu, responded to Dani Alves’ claim that he would not have rejoined the club under the previous presidency, by allegedly leaking a WhatsApp conversation the couple had together in 2019.

Alves rejoined Barcelona in November after leaving Sao Paulo and has now claimed that he would not have returned to Camp Nou if Bartomeu were still at the club.

“I would not have accepted an offer from him,” Alves said. Alkass sports channels.

“I left when he was president and there was no point in working with him again.”

However, those claims have now been questioned after the launch of a WhatsApp chat between the couple since 2019, in which the Brazilian requested to return to Barcelona.

The conversation, which was allegedly shared with journalists in Spain, reads as follows:

Alves: “Mr. President, how are you? I want to go home and play the 2022 World Cup as a Barça player. Let’s put pride aside. We both need each other! “

Bartomeu: “Hi Dani. No problem, but technical staff must agree. You spoke to [Eric] Abidal? Big hug. Barto “.

Alves: “I can talk to him if you want!”

Since then, Alves has responded to the leaked conversation with a cryptic tweet, which reads: “For those who really care about Barça, we would do whatever it takes.

“Life knows what everyone deserves. I am sorry, thanks “.

The 38-year-old Alves has yet to appear in the first team with Barcelona since returning to the club.

The Brazilian first joined the Catalan giants from Sevilla in 2008 and would go on to make 391 appearances in his first spell at Camp Nou, winning six La Liga titles and the Champions League three times.

He would leave in 2016 to join Juventus before moving to Paris Saint-Germain and Sao Paulo, before sensationally returning to Barcelona earlier this season.

Bartomeu, for his part, served as president of Barcelona between 2014 and 2020, when he resigned after a series of controversies that included allegations of tax fraud.
