GoldenEye on Xbox could be a thing according to leaked achievements

A list of Xbox achievements for GoldenEye 007 have surfaced online, fueling speculation of a re-release or remastering.

After Microsoft bought Rare, there were plans to remaster GoldenEye 007, Rare’s 1997 Nintendo 64 shooter based on the James Bond movie of the same name, for Xbox Live Arcade.

The project was eventually scrapped, although a nearly complete version was leaked online last year. Now, Microsoft and Rare are suspected of making another attempt to get GoldenEye on Xbox.

TrueAchievements, a website that tracks achievement activity on Xbox platforms by scanning users’ GamerTags, collected and shared an achievement list for GoldenEye.

The list consists of 55 achievements and, so far, only two players have acquired any of them. Your usernames, BIGsheep and Waylander73, match the Twitter IDs for encoder James thomas and live operations manager Rich cousins, they both work at Rare.

Assuming GoldenEye hits Xbox, it’s still unclear if it will be a simple port, an improved remaster, or a full remake. It’s not currently mentioned in the Xbox digital store and looking for it only shows GoldenEye Reloaded, the 2011 remake that swapped Pierce Brosnan for Daniel Craig.

Despite its popularity, the original GoldenEye has not had any kind of relaunch. Both Microsoft and the original publisher of the game, Nintendo, would have to come to an agreement and the likenesses of the actors, such as Brosnan, Sean Bean and Robbie Coltrane, would also have to be renegotiated.

On top of that, neither Microsoft nor Nintendo have the James Bond video game license. It used to belong to Activision, but is now in the hands of IO Interactive, which is developing its own original Bond video game.

This list of accomplishments isn’t the only evidence to suggest some kind of GoldenEye comeback. In November, it was removed from a list of banned games in Germany at someone’s suggestion.

Some believe it was Nintendo who requested it and that he and Microsoft are working together to bring GoldenEye to the Nintendo Switch Online service.

This came just a couple of months after Nintendo announced that Nintendo 64 games would be added to the service, one of which will be Rare’s Banjo-Kazooie, further highlighting Nintendo and Microsoft’s strong working relationship.
