Another batch of Google Pixel Watch images has surfaced, further suggesting that Google’s smartwatch could launch soon.
The Pixel Watch photos were posted by regular insiders. Jon prosser and they are supposedly marketing images of the rumored wearables, rather than simple renderings. They show a watch with a rounded bezel-less dial and, although they are blurry, they have a hint of official style.
The images in these allegedly leaked marketing materials show a design that we have seen before in unofficial renderings based on leaked information.
As a result, there are no aesthetic surprises here. But what’s surprising is how similar the finished product will be to the Pixel Watch concept designs that Prosser shared several months ago.
The images show a watch with a round face with a bezel-less display that appears to curve around the edges of the smartwatch. On the right side, there is a single crown that appears set to offer the only physical controls for the watch; many other Wear OS-based smartwatches, for example the Fossil Gen 5 LTE and the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, have multiple buttons.
As such, the Pixel Watch appears to be a fairly clean and minimalist smartwatch, somewhat in keeping with the design of other Pixel devices. Meanwhile, interchangeable bands would offer users a bit of customization.
Unsurprisingly, the Pixel Watch is expected to run on Wear OS, and that could be seen as a good or bad thing.
For one thing, Wear OS is moving forward to challenge Apple Watch’s watchOS software, rolling out a revamped version to new Wear OS-eligible smartwatches. It looked great on the Galaxy Watch 4, but Samsung’s own user interface skewed the experience. If Google doesn’t adapt Wear OS to the Pixel ecosystem, and finally gives Pixel phone owners a dedicated wearable, we’ll be disappointed.
Among the operating system changes hinted at in the Prosser images are simplified route navigation, health data that is easy to analyze at a glance, and an overall cleaner interface. All of this, if legit, means that the Pixel Watch is shaping up to be an Apple Watch competitor.
With a planned launch date of early 2022, we may not have to wait long to find out if Google is actually launching its own smartwatch and, if so, if it will be a candidate for a spot on our best watches list. smart.
