Heroes of the Storm is the popular multiplayer game developed by Blizzard that brings together iconic characters from some of the company’s most successful titles (Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo).
However, for some time now, Heroes of the Storm players have been reporting an annoying bug that causes a persistent update cycle, with a 137MB download starting every time they launch the game.
But it is possible that the error is not related to the game itself (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7). Additionally, there is also a workaround that reportedly helps mitigate the problem.
Heroes of the Storm update loop, 137MB download each time the game is launched
According to various reports, this happens every time many players open the game. The launcher starts downloading a 137MB update for Heroes of the Storm and will do so again the next time it runs.
I have to download 137mb every time I start the game. What’s going on?
Every time I exit the game it says an update is starting and completes .5 seconds later. then when I launch the game it downloads a 137mb update of “game data preparation”, that little white popup.
Does anyone else have this problem? it’s super annoying. I don’t have fast internet so it also takes me 2-3 minutes to start the game.
Update 137 Mb. EVERY time HOTS is launched.
Practically the subject. For the last (3?) Weeks I’ve had that problem when every time I launch the battlenet, then HOTS…. The updates of a 137Mb game have started.
Now I have googled several dozen similar posts on the same topic. Especially here on reddit. What I DIDN’T find so far is ….. hmm … Has anyone ever found a solution fix for that nonsense of a technical problem?
It could be the fault of the Blizzard launcher, there is a solution
It should be noted that the issue might not be related to Heroes of the Storm, but rather to Blizzard’s launcher. In fact, similar problems have plagued other games from the company, according to reports.
Currently the game downloads a 23MB file that doesn’t change 3 times in a row every time you launch it, instead of just caching it once when the game is patched (it never changes during a patch). This is an issue that has affected this game and Starcraft 2 (same engine) for the past year.
But, players have discovered a solution that supposedly mitigates the glitch. The process is shown in the following screenshot.
At the moment, it is not known when this error will be resolved. After all, it has been going on for months and there has been no official recognition from the company.
Finally, if there are any updates related to the matter in the next few days, we will update this article with the pertinent information.
