Minecraft Caves and Cliffs Part 2 will also receive a bug fix update just like any other major update. The Minecraft 1.18.1 update is expected to release this week, but may be delayed as developers prioritize release candidate 3 with a critical bug fix.

Given Minecraft’s long legacy, no update rivals the depth of Caves and Cliffs Part 2. This update changed the entire Overworld generation by altering the world height limit, introducing new biomes, and other terrain features.

The developers are working on the Minecraft 1.18.1 update to fix specific bugs and make some other improvements in version 1.18. Unlike the previews and releases announced earlier, Release 3 Release 1.18.1 fixes a crucial bug that puts all Java Edition players at risk.

Minecraft 1.18.1 Release Candidate 3 Addresses Critical Security Risk

Recently, an extremely dangerous exploit was discovered that affected multiplayer in all versions of Minecraft. The developers quickly noticed the security risk and released some server software as a workaround.

A critical security issue has been found affecting Minecraft. If you have the game running, close all running instances of the game and the Launcher and restart; Your Launcher will automatically download the solution.

The Minecraft developers urged players to close the game and restart the launcher. A fix has been shipped and will download on reboot.

Minecraft 1.18.1 Release Candidate 3 fixed a security flaw that allowed players to run code on other devices using the game’s chatbox. Players can download 1.18.1 rc3 using the Minecraft launcher:

  • Open the Minecraft launcher.
  • Go to the Installation tab.
  • In versions, enable the snapshot option.
  • Perform a new installation.
  • Select 1.18.1 Release Candidate three as the version and create a profile.
  • Go to the Playback tab and select the newly installed profile. Click the PLAY button to download all the necessary files.
  • Once the download process is complete, the launcher will launch Minecraft 1.18.1 rc3.

The security solution is necessary and urgent. Without it, all players are at risk on multiplayer servers.

Assume that Forge installations are vulnerable unless you have reinstalled them with a newer version that you know is fixed. Assume that all other modified instances are vulnerable unless you * know * for sure that it is not.

Slicedlme, a Minecraft developer, has asked players on version 1.12 or earlier not to join multiplayer servers, as a fix for them has yet to be released. Similarly, Forge’s servers haven’t received a fix as of yet.

However, the Paper and Fabric Makers have fixed the problem. The security issue only affects multiplayer servers. Players can still play single player worlds without worry.

Developers can release Minecraft 1.18.1 today as release candidate 3 came out early. But the update probably won’t be released on weekends. So if it lags, wait for version 1.18.1 next week.
