The Huawei Mate V could well be the next folding phone to appear, with a rumored release date of December 23, and newly leaked images allegedly showing the phone’s casing suggest that Huawei’s focus on camera quality will continue. .
The images were posted on the Chinese social media platform Weibo (via GSMArena) and clearly show two large cutouts on the back of the device, cutouts that match the triple-lens rear camera setup of the Huawei P50.
It’s unclear how many rear cameras the Huawei Mate V will have on the back, but there’s plenty of room for them. Huawei’s previous foldables, like the Huawei Mate X2, also feature some top-notch cameras along with screens that can be folded.
Entering the fold
The case images don’t give us many other clues as to what else we can expect from the Huawei Mate V. This isn’t a phone that has leaked much, but we can see that it will be Huawei’s first foldable foldable, in the style of the Samsung Galaxy. Z Flip 3.
Previous rumors haven’t mentioned much other than predicting that the phone is on its way. We are still waiting for an official announcement about the device, but considering Huawei’s previous form for folding, we can believe that a new one is on the way.
Go back a few months and there was talk that Huawei had three foldable phones in the works and that they would come at more affordable prices. However, considering Huawei’s ongoing trade ban in the US, it’s unclear how widely they will be available.
Opinion: we need more than one folding form factor
We’re pleased to see Huawei embracing the foldable foldable form factor with the upcoming Mate V phone, assuming the leaks we’ve seen so far are accurate, of course, and that the device will launch towards the end of the month.
Phones with a more mainstream book-like form factor, such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold, tend to grab the most headlines, offering the largest displays, with screens close to the size of a tablet when they are open.
However, Clamshell phones like the Motorola Razr and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 definitely have a role to play as well – their displays may not be that big, but they’re easier to use and more compact, and they make smart use of the ones. smaller secondary screens. too.
With the Huawei Mate V on the horizon, we should have another foldable phone to add to the mix (although global availability could be a problem). When big names like Apple and Google start rolling out their own foldable devices, we hope they will consider releasing these innovative devices in multiple form factors as well.
