The long-awaited Kia Carens 7-seater utility vehicle is set to make its world debut in India today (December 16, 2021). The new model will be a three-row utility vehicle based on the Seltos platform launching in early 2022. It will share its platform, design elements, features and engines with the Seltos SUV. If the reports are to be believed, the new model will be offered in multiple variants – L, LX, EX, EX +, TX and TX +.
The new Kia Carens will likely be offered in 6-seat and 7-seat layouts, with the old one having second-row captain’s seats. The new model is said to carry the brand’s “United Opposites” design philosophy. Ahead of its official unveiling, details of the three-row vehicle’s rear design have been revealed online. It features an LED taillight, an integrated rear spoiler with a high-mount brake light, a recess for the rear door-mounted license plate, and a sloped rear windshield.
At first, the new Kia Carens has a dual headlight setup with slim LED DRLs on top and the main headlamp located below the slim units. It has Kia’s signature tiger nose design, a flat hood design with an upright nose, and a sporty front bumper. The new model has a flatter roof line to maximize interior space. The window area appears larger to give a feeling of spaciousness. You get uniquely styled taillights, which will have LED inserts. There is a light bar that connects the two taillights. The vehicle has a thick rear bumper and two faux silver parts which again give it an SUV feel.
The new Carens UV will come with a completely new interior, with a larger dash. Its higher variants will offer a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity features. The latest spy footage also confirmed that the lower variants will get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. It will have a fully digital instrument console and a Seltos-sourced multifunction steering wheel. The new Carens will come with high-end features such as automatic air conditioning with rear air conditioning vents, sunroof, power driver’s seat, electric ORVMs, wireless charging and more.
The Kia Carens will reportedly be powered by a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 138 hp of power and 250 Nm of torque. The new model could also receive the 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine and the 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine. While the former is good for 113 hp and 250 Nm of torque, the NA gasoline engine produces 113 hp and 244 Nm of torque.
