The high-end sibling of the Samsung Galaxy S22 looks set to be called the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra after a new press image of the phone was leaked showing the design of the upcoming phone.
You might not be surprised by the name, but many recent rumors have suggested that the top-end model might be called the Samsung Galaxy S22 Note rather than the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
This leaked image comes from LetsGoDigital, a website with a strong history of leaks, which has a source that provided the following image of the upcoming smartphone, along with what we think is the standard Galaxy S22. This image is believed to be part of Samsung’s own press materials.
The design shows what we have seen in the leaked photos with a more boxy design for the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and a large number of cameras on the rear. An S Pen sits on the top of this phone, which is expected to be compatible with this phone, and it comes in a bronze shade.
There are five shooters on the rear of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, along with a flash. This leak doesn’t tell us what these cameras can do, but previous leaks suggest that it may come with a 108MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide, and two 10MP telephoto cameras. The fifth lens is likely to be an autofocus.
The tip of the S Pen has the same hue as the phone itself, but the stylus itself is black. We may see something similar for each of the Galaxy S22 Ultra variants.
Behind the Galaxy S22 Ultra is another phone, which we think is the Galaxy S22 or the Galaxy S22 Plus. The leaks suggest that both phones will look similar, with the Plus variant being slightly larger than the standard S22.
The corners and edges of this phone look rounded rather than the square design of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, and there are three main cameras on the back of the phone.
Previous leaks suggest that it will be a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide, and 12MP telephoto. There is also a small flash, but it largely looks like a similar design to the Galaxy S21 series.
The phone comes in a shade of white, based on this image. It’s hard to know what the back of this phone is made of, but recent leaks suggest that Samsung may be including glass on the back of each of its phones.
A clue as to the release date.
A separate leak has given us an idea of when to expect the Galaxy S22 series, and it may be scheduled to land in early February.
According to Jon Prosser, a leaker with a mixed track record in Samsung leaks, the company will begin pre-orders on February 9 of next year. The phones will be available on February 25.
It doesn’t share when we can expect the phones to be announced, but Samsung often opens pre-orders immediately after launch events, so we might see it on February 8 or 9.
Analysis: note in all but the name
For a while, we expected the Samsung Galaxy S22 UItra to be a Galaxy Note phone in disguise. Samsung did not reveal a Galaxy Note 21 in 2021, and it is believed that it will act as a replacement phone.
The Galaxy S Ultra line has now embraced the company’s unique selling point, which is the S Pen stylus. These leaked images suggest that it will also take on the boxy design we saw on the Galaxy Note 20.
Our minds turned to the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra when we saw the back of this leaked image, and it appears that Samsung may be trying to tempt those who like Note phones to move to the S line.
However, if this leaked press image is correct, the company will not choose to call it the Galaxy S22 Note.
