Shahbaz Gill: Both TV channels should apologize to PTI
Another audio clip of the Nawaz leader of the Pakistan Muslim League, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has been leaked online. She is heard expressing satisfaction with how two of the private television channels had countered the opponents of the PMLN.
Maryam on Tuesday evaded questions about the new leaked tape.
In the audio clip, Maryam is heard saying to someone: “Dekhi hai meri media management. Geo aur Duniya walon ne a unki jai tai phair di hai. (Have you seen my media management skills? The Geo and Dunya News channels have exhausted them.)
The clip that appeared recently has been circulating on the Internet. On Tuesday, while Maryam Nawaz was conducting a media talk in front of the Islamabad High Court, a SAMAA TV reporter repeatedly asked about the new audio clip. The clip was also played for the PMLN leader. However, Maryam Nawaz Sharif sidestepped the question, while the party’s spokesperson, Marriyum Aurangzeb, interrupted saying that “too many questions have been asked.”
Maryam left without answering.
‘Maryam Nawaz has helped’ PTI
Shahbaz Gill, the prime minister’s adviser on political communication, said the new leak had raised questions about the fairness of the two TV channels.
In a statement, he said that if what PMLN leaders had said in the clip is true, the two channels should apologize to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said Maryam Nawaz has made another mistake.
“Maryam has always helped us when we were in a difficult situation.”
“We have always admired her and she has never let us down,” he said, adding that this time she had made a mistake.
In early November, Maryam Nawaz confirmed the authenticity of an audio clip that revealed that Maryam Nawaz had issued instructions to stop government advertisements on select television channels, including SAMAA.
After confirming in a press conference that the voice in the audio clip was hers, the PMLN faced strong criticism.
