Pune: Eyeing top rank in cleanliness, PMC asks civic staff to download Swachh app

Having upgraded his rank to five in Swachh Survekshan at the national level of the Union government This year, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is aiming for the top spot in 2022, so the civic body has forced its employees to download the Swachh mobile app and promote public participation through it.

Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar ordered all PMC employees to download the Swachh mobile app. The Swachh contest aims to improve and encourage cleanliness in cities across the country and, along with other measures, has also weighed citizen participation. Greater public participation through the app increases the chances that a city will improve its ranking in the competition.

Therefore, civic staff have been directed to download the Swachh mobile app and encourage others to do the same. Citizen feedback is considered crucial in rating cities for cleanliness. The corporation had previously received criticism after ranking 17th in last year’s Swachh rankings.

The PMC has now hired consultants to guide it on cleanup measures and streamline its administrative process for fast and efficient waste management. In addition, it has decided to take new measures for the management of solid and liquid waste. It also plans to upgrade wastewater treatment facilities and establish new garbage processing plants, as well as segregating the maximum amount of waste before sending it for processing. To promote best practices in waste management and its scientific disposal, the civic entity has also been organizing public awareness campaigns.
