Sonic Frontiers is one of the most intriguing games of the coming year. Revealed earlier this month, the latest installment in the franchise seeks to reinvent what we know about Blue Blur from a gaming and graphic standpoint.
As the first open-zone inspired game in the series, Sonic Frontiers has been compared to Breath of the Wild. Players will race through the open world environment of Starfall Islands and experience various biomes. We honestly don’t know much else about the game, except that it also looks beautiful based on the trailer for the initial announcement.
We know that Sonic Frontiers will be releasing in the 2022 holiday; however, we may already know the expected release date. PlayStation game size they tracked down the PlayStation database and found that Sonic Frontiers has a release date of November 15, 2022. They noted that this may just be a placeholder, although the fact that this date is a Tuesday aligns with possibly be real. Additionally, SEGA has typically released its biggest Sonic games in this November window, possibly to capitalize on the Christmas rush.
Of course, Sonic Frontiers is still in development and we all know things could change. SEGA probably has this release date in mind, but doesn’t want to officially announce anything until they’re sure they can meet it.
Sonic Frontiers is being developed by SEGA’s Sonic Team Japan and is directed by producer Sachiko Kawamura and director Morio Kishimoto, the latter who served as director of the well-received Sonic Colors. It’s still early days for Sonic Frontiers, but anticipation is definitely high on this one. It’s a game I’ll be watching for much of next year, and I hope we’ll see more in early 2022. The game will be out for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. .
