Also, they shot a lot of people through portals.
Splitgate was definitely one of the most amazing games of 2021. The portal-based sand shooter jumped to the top of the free games charts over the summer when the game officially hit consoles after an extended period of early access in PC, and while this caused Splitgate’s servers to crash harder than Ever Given (remember that stupid ship that caused everything to be delayed for two weeks during the summer?), It was nothing more than a small obstacle in the way of Splitgate. towards resounding success.
In a year-end recap video, 1047 reveals several interesting stats that have accumulated since Splitgate’s launch. The biggest stat is easily 15 million downloads, which means A LOT of gamers at least tried Splitgate this year. That seems to stem from Splitgate’s rise to the top of the free games charts on Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam.
The rest of Splitgate’s stats are a fun list of shards, shots, and headshot percentage, plus how many portals were opened in the name of mayhem. It was too much.
An interesting comparison notes that the number of portals generated approached 8 billion, but only 2.3 million of those portals resulted in an actual death. That means there are still plenty of Splitgate players who have yet to master the game’s mind-blowing geometry to secure portal kills. It is certainly something that I have not been able to do.
Splitgate is still in active development and hopes to create a next-gen update for PS5 and Xbox Series X owners in 2022. To that end, Spligate 1047 developers raised $ 100 million in funding last September to hire more engineers and ensure Splitgate has enough. server space to handle your growing number of players.
Splitgate has stiff competition in the free shooter genre alongside Halo Infinite, but 1047 believes that the two games can peacefully coexist. I guess we’ll find out in 2022.
