Visakhapatnam: Gas leak from LPG tanker triggers panic in Parawada | Visakhapatnam News

VISAKHAPATNAM: Panic prevailed in the Parawada area of the city following a leak of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from a tanker truck that capsized on Monday.
The tanker carrying more than 17 tons of LPG from the HPCL-Visakha refinery to the IOC plant capsized near the IOC-LPG bottling plant in Parawada around 5.30am.
The incident occurred when the driver tried to park the vehicle near the plant as there were other tanker trucks inside the plant at that time.
Police said the leak started when authorities tried to lift the tanker with the help of a crane. As the tanker was being lifted in the afternoon, the vehicle developed a small hole and the LPG began to leak.
People living in nearby areas were asked to leave as a precaution.
Speaking to TOI, Parawada inspector P Eswar Rao said fire and rescue service personnel and an IOC technical team rushed to the scene and managed to prevent the fire by spraying water continuously. “After strenuous efforts, the tanker was separated from the engine part of the vehicle and moved to the plant around 2 pm. Later, the LPG was transferred from the tanker. There were no casualties or injuries, but panic prevailed for some time, ”added the police.
