Want to download files from Google Docs for offline use or sharing? Here’s how you can do it

An online word processor, Google Docs, is used to create and edit text documents in the web browser without any special software. Google Docs smart editing and styling tools are used to format text and paragraphs.

A Google Docs document may be available offline once you download it. You can also edit and share the document like the other files after downloading it. You can download files from Google Docs to any computer or mobile device to use and share them offline.

The “Make Available Offline” option in Google Docs allows you to edit a Google document without an internet connection, and changes are reflected once the connection is reestablished. It is ideal to use this option if you want to download a Google document for offline editing and do not need to open it in another program.

Here’s how you can download a Google document to your computer

You can easily download a Google document to your computer with a Windows, Mac OS, or Chrome operating system (OS).

Step 1: Open your web browser and navigate to Google Docs and open the document you want to download.

Step 2: From the toolbar, select the File and go to the Download option. You will see a submenu with a list of the available document file types appear on the screen.

Step 3: Select the type of file you want to download.

Here’s how you can download a Google doc with Google Drive

A Google document can be downloaded through the Google Drive interface. Unlike Google Docs, Google Drive helps you select and download multiple files at once and the document will download in Microsoft Word file format.

Step 1: Go to the web browser and open Google Drive. Right click on the document you want to download.

Step 2: If you want to select multiple files at once, hold the shift button on your keyboard and then right-click.

Step 3: Once you select Download, the file will be saved.

Here’s how you can download a Google doc on your iPhone

Step 1: Open the Google Docs application and find the document you want to download from the list of available documents.

Step 2: Now, select the three-point ellipsis (…) next to the document you want to download.

Step 3: Tap Send a copy and you will get an option to choose between Word document and PDF. Choose your preference and then tap OK.

Stage 4: Select Save to files after a new menu appears on the screen. Go to the location where you want to save the file and tap Save.

Here’s how you can download a Google doc on Android

Step 1: Open the Google Docs app on your Android phone and search for the document you want to download.

Step 2: You will find the three vertical dots next to the document. Select it.

Step 3: If you want to save the document as a PDF, tap Download. You can also save it as a Word document (.docx). The document will be saved in the Downloads folder on your Android device.
